Exactly right. Pretty cool looking sheetmetal, but Golf underpinnings -- not that there's anything wrong with that.
The A3 Quattro comes out in 2+ months. I think it shares the platform of the Jetta or Passat. It may not look as slick, but it's more practical and has the advantage of a few more years of CAD/CAM development. I have the FWD version and I'm very happy with it.
As for cost of maintenance, it's 100% free for 4 years.
