Well, a lot of people (GOP hawks, especially) are convinced that these jihadists despise weakness just as much as they despise Western values. These people say it's a no-win situation, so the only viable solution is to destroy them.
I'm just not as convinced as these hardliners. I think if Israel, Great Britain and the United States could make it up to the Palestinians and neutralise their grievances then suddenly the jihadists would have to find another linchpin, which in turn would make it harder for them to deflect the scorn of moderate Muslims and rational, peaceful people the world over.
It's certainly worth a try.
