There's a difference between veneration (what Catholics do to Mary) and worship. Veneration is love, respect, and asking her to pray to God. Worship would be considering her God.
Christmas' celebration on Dec 25 originated from the Roman persecutions of the Christians. Since the Romans celebrated the Winter Solstice during this time, Christians moved it to fall under this feast so that they could assemble and celebrate without suspicion. Pagan persecution formed the Christmas season as we know it, guys.
Another point: if we do away with Christmas, what's the need for an end-of-the-year holiday? The Jews don't need Hanukah if Christmas is taboo. Kwanzaa is an invented holiday without religious significance. Hell, let's send our politicians back to work and get rid of these long recesses. No visiting relatives, no paid vacations for anybody. Let's just sit there and do nothing. Forget the Salvation Army and the increased rate of donations starting now...let the poor tough out the early winter.
Let's just ban any holidays that have no patriotic significance. Forget New Year's, Thanksgiving, and the rest. Of course, then we'll have the anarchists in court next decrying the travesty of a town's display of Fourth of July fireworks. Let's just become machines...holidays are for girly men.
