A few years back one of the motorcycle magazines pitted a Yamaha VFR1000 (or something like that) against a Viper. I think they ran the road race at Willow Springs. They let the bike wear track rubber and the Viper still smoked it. Theirs was a three part test; road racing on a track, drag racing, and "street racing" up in the canyons above their offices. The only one the bike won was the drag race. The difference between the car and bike on the street was even more pronounced than on the track, with the courage (stupidity?) of the rider being a key factor in how close it could hang with the Viper on unpredictable road surfaces, curves, and what not. I guess about the only other thing we can't do as well is ride wheelies while splitting lanes...
