What gave the 914 the Not a Real Porsche (NARP) label was the VW-Porsche was sold in the VW dealers in Europe. Here in the US it was sold along side the Porsche and Audis of the day.

And both distributed by Volkswagen of America, (until 1984), to really confuse things further.
