Which OS (Windoz 98, W2000, WXP) are you using? How old is the load on the computer, when was it put into service? Have you done a defrag on the hard drive recently and checked for errors?
Might try reloading the OS again and then going to MS to get update service packs and updating the system. If its still doing this or if the computer has been working with this load of the OS for over a year or so might be worth formatting the hard drive and doing a fresh, new load. You would be surprised how full of crap a computer hard drive becomes and how much faster it works after a fresh load of the OS.
