With that kind of mileage on a 2.7 there is virtually a 100% chance that it has already been rebuilt. Probably when it was around 60 or 70K. Having said that the fact that there is probably around 100K on top of that rebuild and it is burning oil.......might be due again.
How much oil does it use? How does it run in general?
Smoke on start up is not always a bad thing. Especially if it's been sitting. If it's burning a quart of oil every 2000 miles that's another thing.
