Cool video in link above.

Super-Conductors.............making it all possible - an American company.

Super conductor wire instead of copper. In a nut shell S/C wire can carry 150 times the same amount of electricity with near 0 resistance.

Quote:
American Superconductor (AMSC) announced on December 7, 2005 that Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) successfully ran its magnetically levitated (maglev) train system for the first time utilizing high temperature superconductor (HTS) electromagnetic coils powered by AMSC's HTS wire. The maglev train attained speeds as high as 500 km/h (approximately 311 mph), while levitated about 10 centimeters (4 inches) above its "track." Superconductor magnets are used as the lifting component in JR Central's maglev train system. The test runs are an important step in the commercialization process for maglev electric transportation systems.
