I think Davidson is a bigger operation now than they used to be. As far as I can determine, my Phils BB issue was very isolated. In fact, no shop I talked with had ever heard of one snapping. But mine did, while taking off from a stoplight. Almost crashed hard but managed to stay upright.
I also had a Rivendell that was pretty amazing too. There are a few great steel builders left out there...
