50% cance for the cause is the door wireloom. this thing is bend allways if the door is moved. After several years the chopper gets tired and generate "dead spots" and higher resistance. Mostly the outher sleeve gets torn and some water is allways standing in there speeding up roting.
Changing the wire is hard work and requires door removal ( With power locks this is even more work ).
So normaly most renew the switches and the motor. Both parts where worn anyhow and so sometimes the unit works several monts again until the wires where rotet more away.
