I have a 70 911E with 16x6 Fuchs wheels and 205/55/16 tires all around. They look good. I'm not sure if the wheel spacers have been changed but I can find out what size they are if you wish.
As for the transmission I wouldn't change it unless there is something wrong with the one you have. It should be plenty strong enough for your power output.
