Alright, I watched the entire damn season because my wife is addicted to it.
I enjoy the show to but mainly just for the board rooms where he fires everyone. I saw this coming a mile away too and was saying it the entire show.
Donald had no problem with altering the rules of the game and firing as many players as he wanted too. There were at least 2 boardrooms where he fired multiple people and one where he fired 4 in one shot. There is no reason he couldn't have hired both and it is obvious that it was a possibility.
Randal and Rebecca worked very well together on a lot of projects and they were excellent on their own.
Randal was clearly #1 though, clearly. Rebecca was a handlful of competition no doubt about it.
I was terribly disappointed with Randal however and maybe it's because I'm a ******* or maybe it is because I'm simply honorable. I'm honestly not sure but I try to be as honest as possible and as ethical as possible in my life. In this last boardroom these two relative equals had to go at eachother's throats to get the job. It's something that I simply would not have done to someone I respect.
Rebecca respected Randal and while there were moments that she could have used against randal she did not. Randal had creativity problems in one episode while on Rebecca's team. She was the PM for that task and they lost. Randal touted his own winning streak but left this loss out. The loss was attributed to a number of things ultimately but one of them was randal's lack of creativity. Ultimately however Clay was fired and of the three he was the one that needed to go. Rebecca didn't ever bring it up against randal and in fact she said very little that was bad about Randal. She respected him, Randal on the other hand had no trouble railing her. I simply can't and don't respect that - he left his dignity behind for a job. I don't particulary think any job is worth treating someone you respect like that.
I guess randal saw her as a threat to his future and now he has likely made an enemy of someone who will likely be extremely successful. I think the right way to play it would have been to make her an ally for life - She rewarded Toral (a complete looser) with loyalty and Toral worked her tail off for her. Previously faced with Toral's obvious failure in the boardroom Rebecca was honest because she is honest. She made an ally and used it to her success in the last episode. Randal had that opportunity and closed the door on it. Rebecca would have been an extremely valueable asset to the trump organization and I don't think it would have done anything but helped Randal. When you have someone who is CLEARLY a good employee regardless of level you hire them. Period.
Seriously.
Randal's a twit in my book now, he may be good but he's a twit because he turned his back on a clear ally when he was in total control to help them.
You can call it business all you want but it isn't good business. You can say it is preserving your own path or job but I don't think you'd be correct.
Donald would have a stronger organization today had he hired both and I feel pretty comfortable saying that she would have said to hire him given the chance.
There is no argument though; As far as performance on the show she was a clear #2 but Donald had a win/win situation there.
I'm just glad he fired the heck out of alla.
Also, I don't feel that Rebecca failed that last event by a long shot. Yahoo tied her hands on the donation gig; they said not to so she didn't and they were in charge. All Yahoo cared about was having a good time and she showed them that in spades. Randal's sponsor didnt' care a thing about anything but the cause and he did an excellent job there. Rebecca's party was awesome and she did a great job recovering from the problems she had. She did what Yahoo wanted.
