aha. some info! I have been scouring the net looking for the number of coupes made but am unable to find solid numbers. I found that in '69 when Porsche first was attempting to race the 917, the CIS homologation board came out to the factory to see if the car would be allowed to race. Porsche did not have the 25 cars assembled to pass homologation yet Porsche tried to convince the board that they did indeed have the parts to assemble the required 25 cars. The board did not go for it and told Porsche they needed 25 cars right in front of there collective faces before the car could go to the track. After only 3 WEEKS, Porsche made the rest of the parts and assembled a full 25 cars. That is one amazing feat for a car that takes 160 hours alone to just build the engine.
It sounds like the pricing of these cars vary greatly if ex-Mcqueen's car is getting 1.32 and a Sebring winning car getting over a million more. I also read a 4.5 million number floating around for a le mans winning car. I did not see a pic of the car, I jsut read the info on another forum somewhere. That is one volitile car.
