Otis owned two 917s. The sunoco penske can am car and the le mans movie car. He used to give rides to POC members that won club raffle tickets at Riverside as well as race them in the vintage events there. I have a pic of John Thomas holding off Fred Knoop in his Mc Claren so Otis could pull out a healthy lead in the turbo panzer. AIR did the paint restoration for Chandler on the McQueen car.
There was another 917 that was driven in local club events too. A independant Porsche repair shop had bought a semi complete rolling spare chassis thru Vasek from Porsche AG. They installed a can am motor and trans then drove it on the street a little bit/ showed it before selling it off. Tom Congleton from Kansas City ended up with it and ran it in club events in red / white stripes le mans winner livery. The car was eventually restored to all white with fresh mechanicals- this is the one that Rudy Junco raced at Laguna
