First, no one said it would be easy. Almost nothing in life that is worthwhile is easy.
Second, we are doing a heck of a lot more than "asking them to stop, nicely." This is a constant refrain I see on this board from the admin supporters. For instance, either we allow illegal wiretaps on American citizens, or we allow ObL to blow up Seattle. It's like they have a black switch and a white switch in their brains, and can't contemplate anything more nuanced.
Finally, we will not continue to be a beacon of freedom and democracy if we continue along this path. Warrantless spying on Americans, indefinite detentions of Americans without charges or trial or counsel, secret torture facilities around the world, and numerous other policies of this administration push us closer to a repressive, authoritarian regime than a free democracy.
