That is a pic of an older, '80s vintage blue Permatune ... which do not have the 'issues' of the current production clear anodized [silver] Permatune units!
I do not believe it overheated ... but I would suggest cleaning and checking the electrical connections at the 6-pin connector very, very thoroughly!!!
