The worst beer I've ever had was cold but horribly stored "Murrey" beer. I think they baked the bottles in one of the storerooms at our site for about 2 years (think 120-130F). We bought the beer at cost (supposedly cost) and it was something like $2.50 each! Uggh.
The bottles in 1989 used to say something like: Fine brewing for 125 years since...established in 1862...we used to complain that we'd missed the good beer by 2 years.
OTOH, since the spirits were also sold at cost, we only had to pay $1 for a mixed drink and all mixed drinks were doubles! Vodka tonics anyone?
