So Tuesday night I hear a terrific crash in my house at about 2:am. Suitably armed with a fireplace poker and no pants, I slink around the house, upstairs then slowly down. Find....nothing. Alarm still on, no zones flashing, wife safe but freaked, daughter oblivious and sleeping, P-Car safe...WTF? Go back to bed.
In the morning my wife notices the leather couch is showered with drywall dust. She looks above the TV to find a large hole in the wall. The hole is about the size of a AA battery with a 4" radius of drywall paper torn away. We go outside and find a 1/2" entry hole in the cedar siding that lines up with the hole in the drywall. Called the cops and they "rush" over about 3 hours later and blithely declare it a bullet hole! Some MFer shot my house.
I live in a quiet, middle income, mostly retired neighborhood and have met most. Been robbed twice and now this. Seems totally random and who's to say if we move the next neighborhood will be safer? My house is paid off but we would have to get a mortgage to move to a nicer neighborhood. I guess alive and in debt is better than dead and debt free.... I'm pissed. I can't imagine how I would have felt if someone in my family had been hit.
So what's next? Fortify the house? Kevlar PJ's for my daughter? Move? What would you do?
