I use a car cover for the winter storage, cat or no cat. It keeps the dust off and nice and clean for the spring time. He'll sleep on top of the car with or with out a cover. I guess it really doesn't bother me that he's on the car it's the claws sliding on the paint as he gets up there or slides down.
A thin type cover doesn't promote or deter him from getting up there. It just slides with him. So I tried a thick cover. This promotes him climbing on the car. He likes it even more on top cause it's warmer and softer.
I haven't sprayed the bitter stuff on it yet, but I think that might be the trick. I'll spray it this weekend.
