Could end up being nothing (change the registration immediately, or better still, sell the car or even better still, junk it), change your address, etc.

I suspect you'll end up liable for all the back tickets, the cost of the boot (probably a few hundred bucks) plus at least a few hundred in fines. I suspect it will go on the credit report of the registration holder if it isn't paid, so say goodbye to your (or her) credit for the next seven years. Oh, thanks to new bankruptcy legislation you're still liable for it even if you file, too. Ain't our system grand now?

Seriously though, I grew up in Boston - NOT a city to f*ck with when it comes to stuff like this. Although I have to admit I laughed when you said the boot got cut off. It's something that everyone who's lived there has always wanted to do. Maybe it was "BOOTMAN", you know, that caped vigilante that prowls the streets of southie in the middle of the night with an angle grinder to free innocent vehicles from the clutches of the man. . . Can they prove you did it? Probably not. Will it matter? Nope. They'll still hang you for it.

Only city I've seen that's worse in terms of militant/nazi parking enforcement in the country than Boston is Santa Monica Kalifornia. Those ba*tards are out on Sundays, holidays, day or night. No warnings, no nothin. They're even worse than New York City - or Boston for that matter. I'm proud to say I've never gotten a ticket in either place. I did get towed in Boston once though, plus a handful of the orange envelopes.

My neighbor did get a ticket on (get this) Christmas Day (yep, the 25th - also a Sunday this year) for leaving his vehicle in the same location for more than 72 hours. Total B.S. I'm guessing Long Beach is going uber-fascist - either that or there was one rookie cop working who was REALLY pissed he had to be working that day. Should be easy enough for him to fight though (i.e. how do you know the vehicle didn't leave for 72 hours and not drive around the block and park back in the same spot? Did you watch it CONTINUOUSLY for 72 hours?) Still a diaper-load of crapola though.

Please post a picture of the cut boot. It'd make a hilarious Christmas card for my friends/relatives in Boston next year. . .
