Awards, Movies, Etc.

So last night began the three-month season of Hollywood congratulating itself for all of the brave and important work it does.

I didn't watch whatever awards show was on last night. I never watch them. Watching self important rich people out of touch with reality convince themselves that they are changing the world for three hours is not my idea of entertainment.

I heard that Brokeback Mountain got a bunch of awards. Do they eat pudding in that movie? If so, South Park had their number about 8 years ago.

I get E!, VH1, and Style on my cable. Three whole channels devoted to celebrity worship. Not to mention the numerous programs on all of the other channels. It's no wonder that I pretty much exclusively watch The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, and The National Geographic Channel. (And sometimes Cartoon Network and Fox News.)

How did entertainers become so important? In Shakespeare's time, actors were a step above prostitutes on the social ladder.

I can't stand to watch celebrity interviews. They always talk about how "challenging", "hard", "brave", and "life-altering" their roles are. Notice that actors like Anthony Hopkins don't get much TV time. He tells it like it is and has no illusions about his importance. He sees acting as a job, and the director as his boss.
