First off...we have no written constitution.. thank god.. hence all Rights are dealt with on preceedent.. which can be changed by legal action..
So we're not 'giving anything up'..
Secondly the intent is there; but between it and reality there is a very large gap..
This type of things has been proposed before and it will inevitably become more prevalent until this joined up system is in place...
As you may know central London already works that way with its toll zone... and guess what...thousands get fined and challenge the fines becuase the system is so full of holes it makes a mockery of itself... but it has reduced both pollution and traffic congestion.. so those who chose to pay get a faster ride thro....
It makes criminals more inventive.....a very important aspect of social rehab of ex-offenders...because they get to steal your tag and you have a clone...
but wait...because there are so many CCTV cameras everywhere its easy yo get yourself caught in two different places at once.. so again the system shots itself in the foot...
Bring it on I say.. they WILL discredit themselves, they will end up looking like idiots as the GATSO saga has proved....active policing by real live bodies is the best solution for the roads; were 80% of 'offences' are carried out by otherwise law abiding citizens.. like speeding...but they are easier to catch than 'real' criminals..
On the flip side and being serious for a second...honest.. there is a case for this type of road monitoring.. there is a stretch of road I take often... nice wide, well planned road that sweeps thro the countryside beautifully...sadly becuase of a number of fairly tight turns on/off of it; drivers either entering or exiting were getting hit rather hard.... and ending up in wooden boxes.. to the tune of three + per year over a stretch of 10 miles... (that's 1% of road deaths..in the UK). Since the installation of the constant monitoring (2 years ago) deaths on this stretch have been zero.. so whilst it does deprive us of a certain 'freedom' it grants others the freedom to live a little longer...
Remember your mobile phone is already giving them that data as you drive...
