Laugh if you want, but take your own advice seriously. I was almost turned away from the border after an 8 hr drive because I had a traffic offense over a YEAR previously in my HOME STATE. The way it works (according to the border agent) is that if you are convicted of an offense in the US and penalty for the offense differs between the US and CAN, they can bar you from entering on the grounds that you haven't fulfilled the proper punishment in THEIR country. This is EVEN if you have completely fulfilled the penalty in the US...

For example, (not my case) extremely reckless driving in my state can result in a suspension of drivers license for 6 mos and driving school. In ontario (as a hypothetical) it's a felony and is subject to license revokation or a fine or even jail time. Even if you've already done the 6 mos and the driving school and have your license back, they can bar you from entry because it's a more serious crime there.

Strange but true, at least that's the gist of it.
