The head gasket didn't blow around any cylinder but did around a couple head studs and the front water port bolts. This made for a total pain getting these bolts out. When I removed the head nuts they felt like they may have been over torqued if anything.
The main problem with the engine way a flickering oil pressure gauge and a knocking sound. I checked #2 rod first a it's the only one with the problem. The metal chunks are in everything so new oil pump and internal cooler and lots of cleaning.
The nice part is the cylinder walls appear to be almost scratch free.
I'll have to see about the crank though and like some of you said it was just moments from throwing the rod through the block.
