I would rather have my kid rot and have no life due to drugs, with some chance of redemption, than have them in prison for the rest of their life, no chance for anything. And from what I have learned prison does not mean no drugs, just more drugs.

Well, the way I see it, they are locking people up who have either committed crimes are are having other commit the crimes to fund the drug habit. Drugs wouldn't be such a big deal if there wasn't so much crime connected to it.
