The single family stuff is north of campus, and there is some south too...but the major streets there are all apartment lined. I live near Veteran and Santa Monica Bl, and its a short walk to Wilshire.

You need to wander off the main streets. the area is all small homes. There's a stretch of "concrete canyon" starting a couple blocks east of Westwood on Wilshire, but those aren't apartments, They're multimillion dollar condos.
