While some of the VW 1.8 Turbo powerplants can be modified for some mad horsepower the motor in the New Beelte isn't one of them. The turbo is smaller than the ones found in the Jetta or Golf, and there simply isn't room under the hood for stuff like a better intercooler...etc.

There's an article in a recent Grassroots Motorsports about modifications to the 1.8T - and they are the ones that stated the above.

Don't get me wrong - you can chip it, and get a better intake/exhaust, but don't expect anything north of 200hp at the crank.

My wife's daily driver is a New Beetle Turbo - it is a fun car. Even in stock form, it's got globs of power on the highway.

You said you 'sunk' $800 into the car recently - what was needed for the car? Compared to Porsche repair prices that I've seen, an $800 repair bill ain't too bad...
