The NBA Champion is not the best basketball team
The Stanley Cup winner is not the best hockey team
As for "the system", you never hear the NFL saying, hey let's switch to a BCS-style ranking system, but you often hear college ball advocates saying, let's switch to a true play-off system.
You can believe that the Steelers are not the best team in the NFL, or "not even top 5", but there is a shiny Lombardi trophy which would prove otherwise.
