I admittingly do not have much hands on knowledge of the new high revving 4 strokes (other than I hate how they sound in a stadium and some are a b!tch to hot start). I also went thru multiple sets of rings and pistons per season (for performance reasons basically) when I raced MX. I would hope the full race 4 strokes do not require as many tear downs, because obviously it is not as easy to freshen up the top end on one of these.
My guess is that these engines will last longer than a 2 stroke, but not as long as the average street bike engine due to higher power output per cc. That said, on the street a good percentage of the time the engine will be cruising along at a relatively low rpm whereas on a race track you and I know that most of the time the throttle is pinned WFO while using the clutch to tactifully feed in power (even the new 4 strokes with more low end still get run pretty much WFO most of the time).
