Ipod question

So I think I'm about to jump on the bandwagon and get an Ipod Nano. Probably the 4GB unit.

I currently have a Sony HiMD unit that I use for listening to tunes at work on. I used to use it to copy TV shows that I'd downloaded to, then connect to my laptop at work to watch them. I switched to burning the shows to 8cm DVD/RWs. Given Sony totally screwed the pooch on MD, and some other things I was thinking about, and Ipod Nano might fit the bill to I still use the HiMD for music, and thought about picking up a 2-4GB USB memory stick... but I thought, why don't I get one thing to replace two things, rather than one thing to replace one thing?

I think the 4gb Ipod Nano will do the trick. I'll probably put some music on it (maybe a gig.. not much more) and use the rest for dumping downloaded TV shows on. That way I can listen to music at work on it, then connect it to the laptop to watch the shows, and also charge the unit. (it does charge via USB, right?)

So I have a pretty simple question... Will there be any difficulty using MP3 tracks I already have? Or do I have to re-rip using Apple's stuff?

If I can use my existing files, it doesn't throw some sort of DRM on the copies remaining on my computer, right?

kthnx!
