You can't go wrong with good Sparkling wine or Champagne. Most anything over $30 a bottle should work. Never buy cheap sparkling wine. Never.

Pinot Grigio or Pinot Gris are outstanding wines, but more suited to warmer weather in my opinion. If you want a crisp, refreshing White, then a good White Burgundy can't be beat - but good ones tend to be a bit pricy - at the upper end of your budget+. As an alternative, there are a million wonderful New Zealand Sauvingnon Blac from the Marlborough region. Whilst most will have screw caps as their standard, don't be put off by this - though opening it is not nearly as fun. As Ian suggested, a Sauternes is wonderful as well.

But you can't go wrong with Champagne. We open a bottle as an appetizer wine all the time.

If you are set on a Gris, suggest you look for Oregon labels.

Have Fun!
