Re: oil breather pipes -- if I am thinking correctly, I had them replaced after I bought the car, in an effort to cure oil leaks (still have oil leaks, darn it!). What is your fuel economy like? Since you're in the UK, I imagine you have an ROW car, so your engine's a bit different than mine (and the car is faster, too, I imagine). Depending upon the year, you are running a higher compression ratio, too, which means I don't have an apples to apples comparison...

I just tried running lower octane fuel in mine for the first time. So far, I cannot really tell an difference. The day temps have been in the upper 70s here in Arizona, so the engine seems to be running a bit lower at idle in the p.m., and sometimes at "normal" rpms. Wish I could find the answer to this problem, cause its a real annoyance. Have you had any further luck? Have you had the CDI itself tested? Maybe its faulty.
