I can't think of anything that you could have done on the pedal assembly that would affect the free-play.

The pedal-end of the clutch cable screws into a clevis which then hooks onto the lever which is attatched to the pedal. If you unscrewed the cable from the clevis you could have changed the free-play that way. But there's no real reason to do that for a pedal cluster rebuild, so that probably isn't it.

I think you just need to play with the double-nut on the tranny end of the cable.
