Media Comedy

I'm fairly busy and only occasionally read newspapers. Almost never watch TV. Today I had a Wendy's Classic Double Cheese Combo and pored quickly through a newspaper. I noticed the following stories:

White House Civil Liberties Panel - Formed by "president" Dubya in December 2004, this panel is given oversight of government anti-terrorism policy regarding civil liberties. The panel exists to protect our civil liberties. The panel has never held a single meeting. So far, two lawyers have been appointed by Dubya to lead the panel and nothing further has been done. Gosh I...I wonder what is holding this effort up.

The Dubya "administration" is stil uncomfortable with the results of recent Israeli democratic elections. Hamas apparently received broad popular support. Democratic election. This election was a democratic election. You know the kind.....where citizens go to the polls and choose their representatives. Dubya's team is experiencing some discomfort.

Discomfort is also felt, by the White House, regarding the direction that Iraq's new gubmint seems to be potentially taking. Our ambassador bluntly warned against sectarian interests within Iraq's new gubmint. Apperently, we won't tolerate that. Won't support it. Someone correct me if I am misinformed, but I think recent Iraqi elections used a democratic model. I mean, the kind where citizens freely chose their representatives. Are we unhappy with the results of our successful efforts to bring these decisions to the Iraqi people?

White House Dismissed Iranian Overture - In May 2003, when the Iraqi invasion had gotten underway, the White House received a one-page memo from Iran asking for a dialogue to negotiate a broad range of issues including and especially nuclear programs. Of course, it would have been silly and wimpy to actually engage Iran in those discussions so we of course, naturally, dismissed the opportunity.

There were other interesting stories. Dang liberal media and their lies. Those lies would be scary but for the colossal incompetence of this administration which seems to preclude any actual progress by the "administration" toward any of its distasteful goals. So, it's just sort of amusing. In a sad, embarrasing way.
