Lots of good shopping, ditto allaircooled, gold souk is pretty amazing but keep your wife away from there if she comes to visit. Lots of fairly western amenities, good restaurants and hotels, tons of russian hookers.

Some fun outings to be had eg nightime cruises along the harbour, dune bashing in the desert, there's at least one golf course. They also recently completed a massive indoor ski hill so you could even bring your boards if you're into that.

Definitely a more tolerant islamic society than many in the area, booze to be had with no problem, just use common sense, a modicum of respect, and reasonably modest dress and there's nothing to worry about.

The main con is that there's plenty to spend your $$ on, so if you're not careful it may not be as lucrative a gig as you might think...

If you go, have fun. Believe me there are much, much worse places on the planet to spend time.
