Your money or your life? Pretty dramatic, eh? When has an emergency room ever turned a patient away for lack of money?
As for abilities to help society, who is the last person you knew who died of tuberculosis? How many healthy young women in your family have died in childbirth? 15 years ago HIV was a death sentence, now (in this country) it's more of a chronic disease. Modern medicine doesn't have all the answers, nor will we live forever, but a hell of a lot of suffering is avoidable because of it.
