i am borderline claustrophobic. every time i plug up, i get tiny panic attacks. at least figiity, forget about sleeping. so i started in on the afrin. by the time i was done i owned maybe 10 containers and i had them stashed all over the place. when my doc, lectured me, my girlfriend made me hand them over. she was scared for alittle. doc, ok's some brands that are not addictive. the stuff they give you to overcome the addiction works well too.
I have sooooo been there! I totally understand where you're coming from. I actually had to have surgery to correct the problem. That sucked HUGE. I had to be on Valium for 24 hrs. I went into a panic attack because after the surgery they stuff gauze in your nose and sinus-no air movement-AT ALL. I freaked! Worst experience of my life and I've spent weeks in traction!

Here's what you need to do. Your girlfriend is right-the Afrin is bad for you. BUT, sometimes ya gotta have it. Key is, don't use it for more than 2 days. Hang in there w/o it as long as you can. Use Breathrights-they help a lot. Use Vicks too. Hot showers, sauna, whatever helps. Then when it gets too bad-Afrin for 2 days only! Then back to breath rights and then hopefully back to normal.

If you need Afrin all the time, your doctor will probably recommend a rhynoplasty. It sucks, but it may be the only cure long term. I've been fine for 12 years now with minimul need for Afrin.

Good luck!
