Honestly, if you get a very well cared for 993, your most expensive maint. item will be rear tires (certainly if it has 18" wheels). These cars eat them for breakfast and you can't replace them for less than about $1100 for all four. Next is alignments. They run $300 a pop and you need one every time you fuss with the suspension or drop the engine. Stock shocks are no good past about 30k miles. All US spec. 993's need to be lowered. It just is what it is. Figure a good $1500 (including pro alignment) if you DIY the shocks, for new suspension.

Aside from my track wreck and the insur. deductible, the only things I've had go bad on my 993 were a rear toe arm grease boot and tie rod boot. The rest I did was unnecessary, but as Steve said, mine is one of the nicest ones around. Literally not a single scratch or ding on the entire car.
