If the weather is clear, a trip to the top of Stunt and Puima (off Mulholland) is mandatory! You'll get a great view, have a good drive and recognize the roads from all of the postings on Pelican. A drive along PCH is mandatory as well.
The Getty has great views and is worth the visit even if you don't care for the art. Dan mentioned the Huntington Library in San Marino. Not much p-car content there, but a very nice place for a visit. The Norton Simon museum in Pasadena is also a great place for a stop.
Not sure how much you're willing to drive, but if you're willing to travel and are into jets, the March Air Reserve base has a SR-71 blackbird on display among other things, the California Science Center also has a SR-71, there is a SR-71 and an A-12 at Blackbird park in Palmdale and the Mojave Airport with the miles and miles of mothballed jets is out past Palmdale as well. (Can you tell where I went when I first moved to LA?)
Good day trips can be had north to Santa Barbara and south to La Jolla and San Juan Capistrano. Lots of exoticar dealerships and shops around. Autogallery is north toward the Mullholland roads and always seems to have interesting things in the showroom.
