I re-watched the finale last night. Some further observations:

The nuclear bomb that "Gena" detonated came from Baltar. Baltar requested it from Adama--at the urging of the Six in his head. Could the Six in his head have been coordinating with "Gena"?

After a year in office, Baltar seems to be widely regarded as a failure and the settlement on New Caprica as a misstep.

The people on the ground in New Caprica offer no resistance because:

1) They have nothing to resist with. The fleet has jumped away.
2) The Cylons do not open fire.
