My wife is a control freak, but it's a byproduct of the things that I wanted most in a woman, ie; independent, overachiever, highly motivated, brutally honest, ect. I almost bailed in the first year of our relationship until I realized it. She was single, successful, regimented & guarded for several years before I met her.

Fortunately we found a good family counselor about a year into our relationship that helped us set some ground rules & 5 years later I couldn't be happier. We are both very stubborn & sometime have to agree to disagree. it often takes us 2 or 3 days to negotiate compromises.

We currently have a situation that we've been negotiating for 2 years without resolve. When we bought our new home it came with a perfectly manicured yard, I said I would buy the $3k worth of equipment to do it myself & save the $225 a month landscape bill. She wouldn't agree (she thought I'd screw up the yard at the time), so I told her that she could pay the damn monthly bill. Well, after 2 years of paying this bill, she is now at the other extreme & wants to buy a $200 mower & do it ourselves. I won't go for that, so I suggested we use our tax return to buy the proper equipment ( Cali trimmer, edger, weed whacker, ect.), & she doesn't want to spend the money. It's all or nothing for her & now I'm trying to hold out, but know that the equipment will eventually land on my Visa.

Sorry to turn this into a rant, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that not all control freaks are bad as long as you get professional help to teach them how to negotiate. BTW, god help me if she catches me with porn, that would land us back in therapy.
