Exactly Tervuren. If you studied liberal cities I bet you might find more liberal kids. If you study conservative cities you might find more conservative kids. The point is that the population of this study is skewed and therefore cannot be applied at all to any other population. This is probably a part of why the criticizing professor called it "shoddy work".
It's sort of like doing a study on skin cancer in Ecuador and then trying to apply that result to people in Alaska. Obviously there is more sun exposure in Ecuador so that is a different population that the Alaskans. The first thing you do when you evaluate a study is decide if it is biased and whether the results apply to your population. The entire study is a small sample size and poorly done affair which would quickly find its way into the roundfile of most true academics.
