I learned about this issue with my old 78 SC. The lowdown is this, on the early production 78 cars, they used the 0 450 905 016 filter, which my car used. When I first ordered a filter for it, I ordered the 0 450 905 021 one and found out it was for the later production 78 models.

You can change the fittings to take the later one, but it's easier to just order the 0 450 905 016 one.
