I dunno. Seems oranges and apples to me. The 911 had no gap. I'd agree if Porsche stopped building the original 911 after 1968, and then created a "new" 911 35+ years later. Instead, the 997 to me is an evolution of the 911 that has been ongoing for 40+ continuous years.
The last Miura was built 35 years ago, and the "new" one, created from whole cloth, is essentially a rebodied Gallardo spaceframe with a name/look chosen solely to evoke a long gone, legendary single model.
Maybe if VAG had the cojones to mount the proposed V12 transversely like the original I'd like it more....but I doubt it.
