are they not attached with two rubber grommits in the two holes in the sheetmetal, and then two pins on the back of the badge? BMW Roundels are done this way, and I assumed the 944 was too, although I have never had my badge off. If so, just pry out the old paint covered grommits, get two new grommits(likely a few cents at a dealer) and stick them in with a new badge.
