I ran methanol (with a little nitromethane mixed in) in my drag boat many moons ago.

Methanol has a lower BTU rating so it produces less power than gasoline........... but......

It burns cooler and you can run a very high compression ratio without pinging.

So if you want to build a methanol burning engine, shoot for 15 to 1 compression or high boost levels (turbo or supercharger) to get the real power.
Stoich IIRC is closer to 8 to 1 on methanol but don't hold me to that. I was playing with nitro and that might have changed what i remember.

Cooling won't be much of a problem but the oil will need to be changed often because of contamination.
