I have a 96 targa.
I live in NC, it can get hot. With the shade the A/C works fine.
But yes, it can get hot without the shade in the direct sun when driving, but at that point i just open it if I'm not using the A/C or close the shade.
They are not as rigid as a coupe if you ask me and yes they make some wind noise but it's worth it if you like the open ride. I have a cab too, but I like the targa better because it's less hassle.
