I don't agree with the lack of an 'exit strategy' for WWII. Our plan was to put the Japanese back within their own borders, and eliminate the German war machine. In both instances, the postwar occupation was long planned and (from the distance of decades) operated very smoothly. This is a fact despite deperate efforts of the neocons a couple of years back to claim occupying Iraq was just like occupying Germany.
