I have to agree. Not only the safety equipment but the hundreds (literally) pounds of additional "creature comfort" items. We have to ask ourselves why, in its heyday, the original beetle was so appealing. It was simple, durable, and reliable. The best you could do was install a radio. It was not a livingroom on wheels for fata$$ed people, but a functional method of getting from point A to point B.
We have been sold a bill of goods by the manufacturers, both domestic and foreign, that we NEED power windows, power seats (heated and cooled, no less), motorized trunk lids, and a myriad of other stuff that does nothing to enhance the primary purpose of the vehicle.
