If every individual in this country reduced his or her gas consuption by 5%, we would see $2 a gallon again. that is all it would take. If the supply (refinining capacity) stayed the same and the demand fell 5% it would make a huge difference.
But it won't happen. Some will cut back, maybe even many will, but the total demand will not fall that much.

I read somewhere that if everybody was driving on properly inflated tires, there'd be a 2% gain in gas economy.
But Americans are living in fear -- of nearly everything -- and fearful people seem to want big, heavy "secure feeling" land yachts to cruise around in like H2s and Suburbans. And they are paying for that preference.
